How to make a Backless Top:
Print out template [Pattern does NOT need to be enlarged]. Then transfer the pattern onto your fabric with a tailor's chalk or washable fabric marker.

After you have all of your pattern pieces cut out, you will need to iron the knife pleats. Then top stitch the knife pleasts in place 2 1/2 inches down from the edge.

Sewing the side seams by placing the skirt pieces right-sides-together lining up the sides seams using a 1/2 seam allowance. Do the same to the yoke pices. Then surge vertical raw edges. Also sew the front right side of the skirt opening with a hem stitch or by hand. The front left side of the skirt turn under 1/2 inch and top stitch.
Attach the yoke to the skirt by matching the Center Back notches, pin in place. Then match the side seams, pin in place. Continue pining the until you get to the front of the skirt … you should have a 1/2 inch difference from the yoke & the skirt. Then sew using a 1/2 inch seam allowance.

Attach the facing to the yoke by matching the Center Back notches, pin in place. Then match the side seams, pin in place. Continue pining the facing to the yoke. Start sewing at the front skirt & yoke point using a 1/2 inch seam allowance, then along the waistline and down the other front.

This step is optional, but it will help the facing from rolling out. On the wrong side of the waist seam allowance, push the seam allowance towards the facing, then sew 1/8 inch from the seamline. Do NOT worry if you can't start at the very edge, you may only be able to start & finish 1 to 2 inches from the ends.

Turn the yoke in-side-out making sure to turn the edges and making them nice and squared, by using a point turner or pencel … Iron the yoke. To finish attaching the facing turn the bottom edge under 1/2 inch and pin … then iron (ironing will help while sewing). Once you finished pining turn the skirt right side up and "stitch in the ditch"1

All that is needed now is to turn the hem under and surge the edges. Then sew the hem with a hem stitch on the sewing machone or sew by hand. The last step is to sew the buttonholes, to the front right yoke, & attaching the buttons, to the front left yoke.

  • 1. Stitch in the ditch: Sew in the seamline between the skirt & yoke catching the facing underneath.
